Westwood Hills Nature Center

160-acre natural area featuring marsh, woods and restored prairie. More than 3 miles of trails and walkways provide hikers with can’t-miss opportunities for leaf peeping, birdwatching and wildlife spotting. The preserve is beautiful throughout the seasons and provides homes for many animals, including deer, turtles, fox, mink and owls.

Interpretive Center

Full of interactive exhibits, such as a display on pollinators and the important role they play, as well as live animals, including a flying squirrel, a red-tailed hawk and a barred owl. The Nature Center offers a unique, outdoor, multi-generational classroom in the middle of the city.

Water Garden

Another hidden gem of Westwood Hills is the water garden. It features over 100 native Minnesota plants blooming throughout the summer season as well as streams, waterfalls and a pond.

Sample Schedule

  • 9:30am Optional pre-retreat mindful hike

  • 10:30am - 11:00am Check-In

  • 11:00am - 11:30am Welcome Circle

  • 11:30am - 12:30pm Yoga

  • 12:30pm - 1:30pm Nosh & Gather Lunch

  • 1:30pm - 2:30pm Mindful Walk to Waterfall, Watergarden, and Westwood Lake Preserve

  • 2:30pm - 4:00pm Sound Bath + Yin Yoga Session

  • 4:00pm - 4:30pm Closing Circle

Opt to arrive early, or stay after to enjoy more of Westwood Hills. Head to Westwood Lake Preserve, rent a canoe or fishing pole, or walk around the area.

Jessica Baumhofer-Frank

Day Retreat Leader & Yoga Teacher

RYT 200, Yin Certified

Jessica is your day retreat leader and yoga teacher. She is bubbly, sincere, and genuine. She knows how to actively listen, engage, and include you in a group.

Jessica teaches gentle, lighthearted and accessible yoga classes. She has a passion for sound bowls and Yoga Nidra and helping people understand yoga is truly for every body.

Jessica lives in the Twin Cities. She often teaches pop-up yoga sessions in the park, and regularly teaches weekly classes through Elk River Community Education.

She is a graduate of the first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Boreal Bliss.

Jessica has a degree in Social Work. She works in the mental health field as a Warmline Coordinator supervising employees that provide peer support as well as 988 suicide and crisis response.

Elizabeth Sorensen

Day Retreat Yoga Teacher & Group Assistant

RYT 200, Yin Certified, Sound Healing Certified

Elizabeth lives in Lino Lakes, MN with her husband and teenage daughter. They also have a grown son who lives on his own in St. Paul.

Elizabeth loves being outdoors, always down for an adventure and her favorite activities range from camping, kayaking, and paddle-boarding in the summer to snow shoeing and XC skiing in the winter. If you do find her indoors, she's probably reading a book, painting, or finding a project to work on in her home. 

Elizabeth completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with Boreal Bliss and the process has truly changed her life for the better. She loves teaching and her hope when attending a class guided by her is to help you feel connected with yourself, grounded with your energy, and all around balanced and calm. If you are in the Twin Cities area you can find her teaching at Pressed Hot Yoga Studio in Blaine.

Michelle Leblanc

Day Retreat Assistant

Michelle lives in Little Falls, MN with her husband John and their three year old Yellow lab, Finn.

She has two grown children and three grandchildren.

Michelle pursued her childhood dream and for the past 37 years has worked as a dental professional. She currently works at a dental office in St. Cloud, MN advocating the importance of oral health as both a dental assistant and a dental hygienist.

Michelle is an outdoor enthusiast. Although winter is her favorite season, she embraces the change of seasons with activities like hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking.

Michelle completed her 200hr YTT and Yin training with Boreal Bliss. If you ask her what the most valuable lesson in her training was, she will tell you “Learning the importance of proper breathing and self care.”

Michelle currently shares her yoga skills with friends and family. She teaches Yin yoga to her husband, and teaches a vinyasa flow class, using Skype, to a friend twice a week. She has also enjoyed making a few videos for friends. Michelle likes to challenge herself with gentle flows and challenge others with a bit faster, intense flow.

  • As part of our ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion in the yoga space, we are offering scholarships to Black, Indigenous, people of color for our yoga retreats. Please fill out a BIPOC scholarship application under the “scholarship foundation” tab at the top of the website.

  • 6+ weeks notice: $40 fee

    4-6 weeks notice: $80 fee

    6 weeks and less notice : 75% of total amount fee

    14 days or less notice: no refunds available

    We hope that you can appreciate the amount of time, love, and energy we wholeheartedly put into each retreat. Not just during the event, but the many months leading up to it.

    Please note: Our winter venue does not issue refunds due to weather. As such, we are unlikely to cancel the retreat except in a very extreme scenario. In most situations, we hope our guests plan ahead to accommodate Minnesota weather conditions in winter to safely travel to and from the retreat- which may occasionally mean allowing extra travel time.

    In the event of widespread extreme weather, including highway closures, the retreat will be rescheduled. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled weekend, you may be able to receive a partial refund or transfer credit to a future retreat. If the retreat is not cancelled/rescheduled, we will be unable to issue refunds on an individual basis due to the weather.
