Free Donation-Based Virtual Yoga Class
Dear Boreal Bliss Community,
We are committed to making sure Minnesotans have safe, reliable access to the nourishment they need. We know that in particular, our Twin Cities area neighbors are experiencing extreme challenges right now. One way to help is to address barriers to meeting basic needs, such as food.
Together, we can support our fellow Minnesotan community.
Please join us for a free, donation-based live, or recorded virtual yoga class on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 12:00-1:00pm taught by Bryana Cook. This will be a gentle yoga class and loving-kindness meditation.
The yoga class is free, yet we encourage all participants to donate to Second Harvest Heartland through our provided donation link. You also do need to register for the free class in order to receive the class link + recording.
Second Harvest Heartland provides food and partners with shelters, churches, K-12 schools, and more. They are the leading partner for food support in the metro area.
In fact, I have firsthand experience working with Second Harvest Heartland. Before my 15+ years of living in Northern Minnesota, I did actually live in Minneapolis and St. Paul for many years. I pursued my undergraduate degree in Sociology at the U of M. I had an unpaid internship and volunteered many hours at Avenues for Youth, an emergency shelter for youth in North Minneapolis. I remember the weekly donations from Second Harvest Heartland, unpacking the food and storing it in the kitchen; a wonderful relief for young people experiencing homelessness.
I also volunteered many hours at Southside Family Charter School in Minneapolis. Second Harvest Heartland partners with a large number of Twin Cities (and suburban) area schools to provide food support for their food pantry and backpack programs. This school-home connection means that many children and families will have food on the weekends.
I was the main (only) School Social Worker for many years at my local school here in Northern Minnesota. I started a food pantry program, and supported the already existing weekend backpack program. I know very well how much this food support means to children, families, and teachers in the schools. You see, teachers do A LOT. Right now they are doing even more. If we can help them to help their students get their basic needs met, it goes a long way. I know this for a fact. I’ve seen it.
DONATIONS: all donations to support Second Harvest Heartland can be contributed here.
YOGA CLASS: you can sign-up for the free yoga class here.
1 in 5 Minnesota households are food insecure. Your support today helps provide much-needed food to local families who are missing meals.
For every dollar you donate, Second Harvest Heartland can provide 3 meals. Wow! Please donate any amount you can. Every single dollar truly makes a difference.
Thank you for joining us in our efforts to end hunger together.
Warmly, Boreal Bliss Yoga Retreats
