Shannon McGrath, our summer retreat canoe wilderness guide, is on a podcast!

Shannon McGrath has been a wilderness canoe guide with us for 4 years at our annual Adventure Awaits Yoga Retreats. We are so lucky to have her!

She has nearly three decades of incredible experience and knowledge cultivated through her quality time spent in both a canoe and in the backcountry.

The first time I met Shannon, she arrived to a retreat in Lanesboro, MN with sticks and leaves in her hair and mud on her legs and boots. Jessica Wiens (also now one of our Adventure Awaits canoe guides), was with her.

Me: “Whoa what happened?”

Them: “We arrived by canoe and missed our landing off the river. We did a longer portage off the river than expected; through mud fields and over a couple fences.”

I was shocked and impressed. Still to this day, this has been the most memorable arrival to a retreat by any guest. They’ve lived as legends in our book ever since. You see… we didn’t even know one could arrive to this venue via canoe. But they sure did.

Our retreaters have raved about Shannon’s expertly guided trips into the Boundary Waters since her start with us.

And now, there’s a great podcast episode out about her start in a canoe, as well as some funny stories in current day on a recent Boundary Waters trip with her friends!
