A getaway for the {aspiring or seasoned} winter lover

Amanda here. My favorite yoga retreat takes place at the start of the new year. The setting is idyllic. We stay in cozy log cabins with indoor fire places on a frozen lake on the edge of the boundary waters.

The sky is clear with the Milky Way yawning above. Combined with the timing, just after the holiday rush when the world slips into stillness and the quiet hope of a new year begins to gather, it becomes a place where winter itself becomes an invitation to begin again.

A few years ago I arrived on a Thursday, taught my first class, and lost my voice in the process. I was at camp less than 24 hours before I went home sick. I kick sledded nearly 7 miles in those 24 hours, some of those under a full moon. (A kick sled is kind of like a dog sled you power with your own legs. It works great on a frozen lake). It remains one of the most powerful experiences of my entire life.

This is an invitation for you to join us for a quintissential MN experience. Whether you are all about outdoor adventure, or cozy rejuvenation by a fire, this retreat will serve up huge doses of what you need.

There’s so much to say about Camp du Nord. I cannot gush over this retreat enough.

  • We provide you a fully planned, epic winter wonderland weekend, chock-full of choices.

  • Multiple yoga sessions to choose from in the mornings and afternoons/evenings. (We’ll be offering both vinyasa style flow classes and restorative, slower, gentle classes)

  • Quiet morning meditations by the fire.

  • Winter wonder walks - nature hikes in the snow.

  • Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding, and lakeside sauna + ice hole cold plunge.

  • Specialty workshops centered on the new year and artistic expression. One of these practices is my favorite! We choose from spices, natural elements, and dried fruits to create a simmer pot of our intentions for the new year. You bring the simmer pot home to set the intention for your home.

  • Delicious daily dinner & lunch in the dining hall.

  • Beautiful northwoods cozy cabins, breathtaking views, fully equipped with a well-appointed kitchen for your morning coffee and favorite breakfast.

  • Outdoor bonfires, indoor fires in your cabin and in the yoga spaces… keep it cozy everywhere you go.

  • The most stunning wilderness views of Burntside Lake and the boreal forest right out your window.

A new aspect of our retreat is that we have an additional block of cabins reserved this year! These cabins are in the Northland Village, and we are calling it the “Hygge Track”. Hygge is a Danish word, defined as a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that embodies a feeling of contentment or well-being.

The concepts of hygge and friluftsliv pair amazingly together. After quality time out in nature, a mindful cozy session by the fire hits different.

Read more about our Hygge Track with a photo journey below. We do have a few select spots still available in our Adventure Track (Pine Pointe Village) as well.
